Today the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $5,200,789 to several Delaware housing authorities, including the Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA), Wilmington Housing Authority (WHA), Dover Housing Authority (DHA), and Newark Housing Authority (NHA).  The funding is part of the U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Capital Fund Program that has allocated $2.3 billion to 3,131 agencies across the U.S.

At the same time, the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) proposed a new program for their 2011 budget – Preservation, Enhancement and Transforming Rental Assistance (PETRA) which would help housing authorities use public and private financing to make public housing affordable in the future.  PETRA would also position federal housing authorities to leverage $7 billion in capital in 2011 and up to $25 billion thereafter.
