Affordable Housing and Tax Credit Developments NationallyThe U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Provides $110 Million in Grants For Low-Income Families

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has provided Notices of Funding Availability (NOFA) for three grants, offering approximately  $110 million to help provide low-income families with resources to obtain education, job training or employment:

Public and Indian Housing Family Self- Sufficiency Program (PH FSS)- The PH FSS program helps Public Housing Authorities (PHA)  hire caseworkers to connect adult public housing residents with local organizations that provide job training, childcare, counseling, transportation and job placement. Public Housing Authorities (PHA)  are eligible for nearly $15  million in funding. Application deadline is June 29, 2011.

Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency Program (HCV FSS)- The HCV FSS program helps Public Housing Authorities (PHA)  hire caseworkers to connect Housing Choice Voucher recipients with local organizations that provide job training, childcare, counseling, transportation and job placement. Public Housing Authorities (PHA)  are eligible for nearly $60  million in funding. Application deadline is June 8, 2011.

Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency-Service Coordinator (ROSS-SC)- The ROSS-SC program helps Public Housing Authorities (PHA), non profit agencies and public housing resident associations to hire coordinators to place residents in education, job training and placement programs and/or computer and financial literacy services available in their community. The program also helps the elderly or disabled connect with supportive services that allow them to maintain an independent lifestyle. Nearly $35 million is available in funding for these organizations. Application deadline is July 13, 2011.
